TIRANA, March 10 – On Monday evening, the Ministry of Health confirmed four new cases of COVID-19, three of which are related to the first two identified patients.
To date, 14 suspected cases of COVID-19 have also been tested, eight of which have had close contact with the two patients confirmed with the novel coronavirus in Albania.
From the results of the 14 tests carried out in the virology lab at the Institute of Public Health, four people tested positive for COVID-19, three of whom are related to the first 2 patients confirmed yesterday evening. Currently all the people who have had close contact with the two patients are in obligatory self-quarantine and are being observed by teams of epidemiologists regarding their health status.
Currently their condition is stable.
The fourth confirmed patient is a 31-year-old male in Tirana, who traveled to Milan six days ago and returned to Albania after staying in the city for one day. He is currently being treated along with the first two patients at the Infectious Diseases Hospital but his condition is not severe.
This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Albania to six, out of the 77 tested suspected cases.
The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs asks citizens to contact National Emergency by dialing 127 if one shows any symptoms related to respiratory illness, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, especially those who have traveled or have had close contact with citizens who recently traveled to affected countries.
