Albania suspends all flights from TIA, except to/from Istanbul

TIRANA, March 21 - As of March 23 all flights from Tirana International Airport, excluding those to and from Istanbul with 'Air Albania', will be suspended until further notice in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus. However, TIA will remain open for all humanitarian flights, repatriation flights and cargo flights.

"The airport remains open to all humanitarian flights, repatriation flights, cargo flights and any other flights that serve to alleviate and overcome this great challenge for us all," the Chief Executive Officer of the Tirana International Airport, Constantin von Alvensleben, said. Citizens are advised to get in touch with the airline companies or travel agencies.

This is one of the many measures that the Albanian government is taking in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19. Albania suspended all flights to and from Italy, Greece as well as the U.K. during the previous weeks. Austrian Airlines later announced that flights to and from Tirana would be suspended as of March 19, 2020 until further notice.
