TIRANA, Sept. 31 – More than a hundred lime-kilns operating in Fushe-Kruja and Kruja area, some 30 km from Tirana, have had their activity suspended on pollution grounds, says the Environment Ministry.
“The Environment Inspectorate has suspended the activity of 109 lime kilns which had turned into a concern for the local community because of the air pollution. Controls showed the lime kilns did not even had the necessary documentation to exert the activity,” said a spokesperson for the Environment Ministry.
The Environment Ministry, led by Lefter Koka of the Socialist Movement for Integration, says pollution, sewerage, and illegal exploitation of rivers will be its top priorities.
