TIRANA, April.24 – The largest Albanian ISP company, “Abissnet” announced that it has completed a successful deal with the giant telecommunication company, Cisco Systems to provide Wi-Fi Mash wireless service to the pilot experimental zone of “Komuna e Parisit” in Tirana. “The neighborhood has been picked given its dense population and the frequent use of internet,” clarifies technology manager of the firm, Gentian Bajraktari. WiFi is a reliable developed technology that is frequently used worldwide and even in Albania. It transmits Internet service without wires, modem connections, through waves that are distributed by Access points. The latter have the capacity to generate a 100-300 m zone where you can access Internet. The novelty in providing a network is the placement of several aces points that communicate in order to provide the service to the entire neighborhood with maximum sped and efficiency and to enable the customer to use it comfortably in the environment or work or home within the designated area. This self-regulating and powerful network is the so-called WiFi Mash and will be set by a collaboration of “Abissnet” with Cisco, starting with the zone of “Komuna e Parisit”.
The capacity of this network will be 54Mbps, and will include the phone service providing by the trademark Qylfone, with internal zero costs and very low prices for international calls. Users will just need a wireless card and a password provided by “Abissnet”. The speed of the Internet will be 19 times better than the one currently offered by Albtelecom and the price is only 9 euro per month. Sajmir Alickolli, marketing manager at Abissnet, calls this latest initiative “a real revolution bringing Albanian communications closer to European and international standards.”
