TIRANA, Jan. 25 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Kosovo President Hashim Thaci announced on Friday their recognition of Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s legitimate president.
In a political conflict happening on the other side of the world, in South America’s Venezuela, between dictator Nikolas Maduro and his rival Guaido, only the US’ Trump and a few Latin American states have recognized the latter as a legitimate president.
Rama announced Guaido’s recognition on Twitter, while Thaci followed suit, also expressing his alignment with Trump’s views.
“The warmest congratulations for Venezuela’s President, Guaido. Kosovo recognized the transition yesterday, in alignment to our allies and the values we share. I invite you to Kosovo. We have also risen like a Phoenix after some decades of dictatorship,” Thaci wrote.
Some, like Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have supported Maduro and wished him to keep his head high.
However, the international arena has deemed the elections that appointed Maduro manipulated and has not recognized them.
The EU member states, in opposition to Trump’s strategy, have simply not recognized the Venezuelan elections and have called for their repetition.
