Albanian coffee shop chains expand globally as Mulliri opens up in Cairo

TIRANA, Feb. 22, 2023 –  Chains of coffee shops in Albania are a phenomenon of the past decade but the domestic brands have matured enough to expand in the region, where it is not unusual to see the Albanian brands. Now they’re going global.

The oldest of the Albanian brands, Mulliri i Vjeter, has opened one of its signature cafes in the Egyptian capital, Cairo outlet

The coffee chain, which operates many location across Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia, has indicated its expansion North Africa could be a step towards further international expansion

Mulliri’s first store out of the region has opened in the Mivida gated community, New Cairo, according to the World Coffee Portal.  

The Tirana-based operator said the new store forms part of its plan to bring an “Albanian coffee experience to customers around the world’ – an indication of the coffee chain’s aspirations for further international growth.  

Mulliri also distributes its own branded coffee in supermarkets in the Balkans and the United States. 

The Albanian cafe experience is increasingly changing from small mom-and-pop shops into larger chains that provide branding and a uniform experience in their cafes. Mulliri competitors locally include Mon Cheri and Sophie.
