TIRANA, July 24 – Edi Rama, leader of the winning leftist coalition of the Socialist party who is expected to become next prime minister, made his second visit to London, Britain to meet with his ‘adviser’ Tony Blair.
Yes, Blair has publicly committed himself to assist Tirana’s new government.
That was learnt since before the June 23 national elections when Rama met with Blair to ask for his advice.
Blair agreed to advise the next government of Albania. It is yet not clear whether that deal will be also with financial terms, or as said some time ago that Blair said it would be free of charge.
One of Blair’s aides assisted the Socialist party during the electoral campaign.
The deal with Albania is understood to have been first negotiated in February when Alastair Campbell, Blair’s former director of communications, flew to Tirana, the capital, to promote his bestselling diaries. He offered the Socialist Party strategic advice in the run-up to the election last month.
Blair’s spokesman says he has not signed a contract and the Albanian government will not pay him. However, he declines to say whether he will be paid by the country’s socialist party.
Everything is yet to be made formal and public.
