COVID-19, President to convene Security Council meeting

TIRANA, March 24 – President of Albania Ilir Meta is expected to convene a Security Council meeting on Wednesday to address the current COVID-19 situation in the country.

The meeting was announced by Ted Blushi, the President’s spokesperson, via Facebook on Tuesday. “The President of the Republic Sh.Z. Ilir Meta has decided to call tomorrow a meeting with the National Security Council, at the most appropriate time, depending on the situation,” he wrote.

President Meta is expected to reiterate his request for the coordination of all institutions as well as the cooperation of all parties to cope with the COVID-19 situation.

The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, DP party leader Lulzim Basha, the Minister of Defense, the Head of State Intelligence Service and more.

The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply affected the lives of Albanian citizens, leaving many out of work. So far, a total of 123 coronavirus cases have been confirmed and five people have died, while the country remains under lockdown.
