TIRANA, May 12 – Albanian Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli and Army Chief-of-Staff Gen. Maj. Jeronim Bazo visited Albanian troops in Afghanistan, confirming the country’s commitment to implement all NATO decisions in that mission.
Kodheli also met with Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, commander of the NATO-led ISAF troops in Afghanistan, and Maurits R. Jochems, NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan confirming her government’s commitment to support the alliance’s decision, the ministry said in a statement.
She gave to the military there the full support of the government for the difficult and important task they are performing.
She also paid respects in a ceremony commemorating an Albanian officer who was killed while serving in Afghanistan two years ago.
There are 72 Albanian troops stationed in two missions, MAT 5 and Eagle 8, in Kabul and Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Albanian troops have been serving in several global hotspots since joining NATO in 2008.
