KUKES, Jan. 15 – The work in the 28-kilometer Morin – Kukes – Kalimash road segment is suffering some delays due to the process of land expropriation. Building of this road costs 560 million leks. Some local officials say they have had no official documentation from the construction company or the central government what is to be done with some of their objects which should be demolished as they are along the road trace. A very important issue remains the water supply network for Kukes which has to deviate because of the new road. The new road, which has started to be build since four months, is part of the Durres-Kukes-Morine segment which will link Albania with Kosova. The highway is 170 kilometers. The completed highway will run from the port city of Durres to the town of Kukes, 200 kilometers northeast of Tirana, and then to the Morina border crossing point. Kosovo, a U.N.-run province in Serbia, is important to Albania because most of the tourists visiting the western Balkan country are ethnic Albanians from Kosovo or Macedonia as well as expatriate Albanians returning from other parts of Europe.
