Durres, June.14- The Durr쳠port reports having completed a profitable season with considerable increases in exports, imports and passenger services. This port season has seen some real changes with the introduction of online ticket reservations and sales. The changes in the administration of the port are being handled by the Ministry of Public Works, transportations and telecommunication to achieve the goal of reaching European standards in line with the MSA obligations. 562 ships have gone through this main port on the Adriatic during the period of January to May. Compared to the same period last year, data indicates exports rose 84% and the handling of cargo containers was up 56.2%, also, 40.690 vehicles were transported through the port, a 23% increase over last year with 18.173 trucks, a 10% increase and 7.511 trailers, an increase of 19%.
The Durres port has welcomed the increase of 76.581 passengers, 12 percent more than last year. Acting on a request of MPPTT, this year the port launched an online service for booking and buying tickets, which has guaranteed smoother operation at the port. Finally, the use of additional cargo containers has eased the movement of vehicles inside and out of the ships, and has helped to ease congestion of traffic inside in the port.
