Durres Port Traffic Rise in January

DURRES, Feb.14 – The Durres port said on Wednesday that cargo and passenger traffic in January were both higher than a year earlier. The port handled 273,454 tons of cargo last month, up 22.1 percent on the year, as exports and imports through the port both rose, the port said in a statement. Last year, Durres port handled 3.4 million tons of cargo and 701,091 passengers. Ferries carried 15.8 percent of the cargo traffic at Durres port last month, up from 12.6 percent in January 2006. January exports through the port almost tripled on the year, reaching 70,299 tons. Imports rose by 1.3 percent, reaching 203,155 tons. The number of passengers who traveled through the port last month rose by five percent on the year to 67,009. The port handled 17,820 cars, trucks and trailers, up from 15,301 a year earlier.
