DURRES, Jan. 16 A new entrance will link Durres with the highway and it is to be finished in 18 months. The Transport Ministry gave a funding of 466 million leks for that. Work has already started in the area of Shkozet and it is done from the Geci and SIAK companies. It will link the city with Shkozet in four kilometers in an effort to facilitate the traffic. It will also serve to shorten the way to tourist areas of Spitalle and help businesses in Porto Romano. The new road will have six lanes. Durres port authorities said that during 2006 they had transported some 700,000 passengers and 521,000 tons of goods to/from the Italian ports of Bari, Ancona and Trieste. The number of passengers was slightly higher than that of 2005 while the transport of goods had a significant increase compared to the same period, or 125,000 tons more than in 2005. Ferries had 1,422 trips or 160 less than a year ago as the companies had put in use bigger ferries. Durres port is Albania’s main entrance to Corridor 8.
