TIRANA, Aug. 5 – Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has told civil servants and all institutions to provide accurate, full answers to any questions raised by experts sent by the European Commission to report on Albania’s eligibility for visa-free travel.
“Give them your full attention and commitment,” Berisha said at a government meeting, addressing the country’s institutions.
The European Commission has already formally proposed the abolition of the visa regime for Albania, but has made it conditional on meeting several key criteria.
These include developing a strategy for repatriated migrants, seizure of assets of organized crime and strengthening the fight against organized crime.
A group of experts were in Albania over the past couple of weeks to see the fulfillment of these conditions and have seek clarification on some issues related to them.
The European Commission is expected to make its decision in September and then will be the European Parliament that will determine the date of entry into force of the decision.
The issue of liberalization of the visas is included in the agenda for the November meeting of the body.
