TIRANA, March 27 – In a video conference in the evening of March 26, whose main agenda was expectedly the management of the COVID-19 crisis, the leaders of the EU member states also fully endorsed the March 25 conclusions of the Ministers about Albania and North Macedonia. Therefore it is fully official from the side of the Union that the two countries can proceed with the opening of accession negotiations.
The Commission has been given the green light by the Council to begin the preparation of the relevant negotiation frameworks until the intergovernmental meeting. EU Ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca said on Thursday that Albania needs to focus on fulfilling four main conditions including the adoption of the electoral reform, the establishment of the Constitutional and Supreme Court, the establishment of specialized anti-corruption bodies of the SPAK and the BKH, as well as the fight against crime and corruption.
