BRUSSELS, Oct 31 – The European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, Markos Kyprianou met Albanian Minister of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection, Jemin Gjana in Brussels on Monday. The Albanian minister presented a list of the initiatives from the ministry to meet the European list of recommendations. He expressed the government’s will to strengthen the food control and empower the specific agencies to set the necessary rules by which Albanian producers have to comply in order to offer better and safer products. After praising all the improvements and new initiatives for better food regulations set by the ministry and other authorities of the Albanian government, the European Commissioner emphasized that Europe has no interest in acting like a fortress to third party food imports. As long as these products fulfill the set standards for quality and security they will be accepted and made part of the regular trade, Kyprianou said. The minister invited the Commissioner for a formal visit to Albania and the visit was set for next year.
