TIRANA, June 19 – Police reported they had arrested ten people who offered fake driving licenses for certain amounts of money.
The arrest included three public officials and three other private persons accused of issuing driving licenses in an abusive manner for bribes, according to a statement. They were the head of the local commission for issuing drivers’ licenses and two of its members, and also a local businessman, two driving schools owners and an instructor were accused of acting as middlemen for the payment of the bribes.
another top official in the city of Fier was also put under investigation.
They are suspected of having issued more than 50 drivers’ licenses to people who had not passed the written or road test in return for bribes arranged by the driving school owners. They were paid 40,000 leks for a driving license.
Prosecutors said more people could be indicted soon.
That is a very good attempt by the authorities to stop such a corruptive case that directly affects the life of everyone.
Albania is on top of the countries suffering from road accidents and having a driving license without passing any exam at all is obviously a good start and reason for that.
