TIRANA, April 1 – Interior Minister Bujar Nishani said authorities had already begun issuing financial compensation to all those families affected by the Gerdec explosion that killed at least 25 persons and injured more than 300.
Also, more than 4,000 houses were destroyed or damaged during the catastrophe.
Nishani said 1,700 families had opened bank accounts to receive compensation.
The minister said that if any family, and there were some 500, were not pleased with the amount of compensation authorities would then contract with private companies to do the repair or construction work and then return their house to them.
Meanwhile, the army finished cleaning Gerdec and other areas affected by scattered artillery shells and only a core group will remain to take care of the explosion crater. They were assisted by a group of five international experts.(Tirana Times Staff)
