TIRANA, July 18 – The Institute of Statistics on Wednesday issued short-term statistics for the country’s economy during the first quarter this year.
During the first quarter, the increases were estimated at current prices were up by 14.4 percent in extracting crude oil, natural gas, and in manufacturing it had a 26.5 percent increase. Electricity, gas, steam, and water supply saw no change.
In construction during this period, compared to the same one last year, the volume of new building, reconstruction and civil engineering work increased slightly by 0.3 percent and the turnover decreased by 1.3 percent.
There was also a decrease of 4.7 percent for the turnover in railway transport and 5.2 percent in air transport. There was no information from the sea transport.
In the hotel sector sales increased by 26.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
Industry
Sales estimates in industry increased by 16.9 percent from the first quarter 2007 to first quarter 2006. This increase shown in the manufacturing industry was 26.5 percent and in extracting industry 17.9 percent during the same period.
Electricity and water supply did not show any change. The sales has influenced not only the increase of production, but the number of enterprises employing ten or more people.
The number of employees in industry increased by 5.8 percent in the first quarter of 2006 compared to the first quarter of 2007 while the salaries paid increased by 15.7 percent during the same period.
Extracting industry
In the extracting industry in the first quarter 2007 sales increased by 14.4 percent compared with the first quarter 2006. This was influenced by the increases of export sales of crude petroleum.
The number of employees in extracting industry during the first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007 increased by 4.3 percent, while the wages paid increased by 21.6 percent during the same period.
Manufacturing
In the manufacturing industry, the sales estimates with current prices increased by 26.5 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007. The increase of turnover was higher in production of non-metallic mineral products by 63 percent. Also increases in the production of furniture was 48.7 percent and in the production of paper and publication sector by 35.4 percent.
The number of employees in the Manufacturing Industry increased by 9.9 percent from the first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007, while the wages paid increased by 16.4 percent during the same period.
Electricity, gas, steam and water supply
Turnover (sales), in electricity, gas, steam and water supply sector, estimated with current prices has had no change from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
The sale of electric energy comprises the energy produced in the country, the purchasing of energy import and private HEC.
The number of employees in electricity and water supply is decreased by 2.7 percent, while the wages in this branch increased by 11.4 percent during the same period.
Construction
Turnover (sales) with fixed prices in construction sector decreased by 1.3 percent from the first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
In comparison with the same quarter a year before, the volume of construction in new buildings increased by 5.7 percent, while the reconstruction increased by 3.9 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
The number of employees in construction increased by 1.7 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007, while salaries increased by 10.2 percent, during the same period.
Hotels
Turnover estimated with fix prices in the activity of hotels increased by 26.7 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
The number of employees increased by 11.5 per cent, while an important increase of wages paid was up by 53 percent during the same period.
Transport
Railway Transport
Turnover (sales) estimated with current prices decreased by 4.7 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
The number of employees decreased 5.8 percent, while the wages paid decreased by 0.3 percent.
Air Transport
Turnover (sales) estimated with current prices in sector of air transport decreased by 5.2 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
Travel Agencies
Turnover estimated with current prices in travel agencies increased by 30 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007.
Number of employees in travel agencies increased by 1.4 percent, while wages paid increased by 13.6 percent, during the same period.
Post and Communication
Turnover (sales) estimated with current prices in activity of post rose by 55.6 percent from first quarter 2006 to first quarter 2007, while turnover in activity of communication increased by 17.7 percent.
The number of employees in post activity increased by 18.1 percent and wages increased 17.4 percent, while in communication the number of employees is increased 9.9 percent and wages 13.9 percent during the same period.
