TIRANA, Aug. 13 – An old stone mill and a healthcare center are the latest projects the German embassy in Tirana has supported in the northeastern Theth area, popular for its mountain tourism. The embassy has also previously supported the Theth area with a small bridge and dam.
The financing of the small projects came as a request by the Shale commune where mountain tourism has been considerably increasing in recent years.
In Theth, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), now GIZ, has provided funds for the first homes to be capable of receiving family tourists. Nature and water in that area are well known for their curative properties. This in turn has created the opportunity for families to have better facilities to host foreigners in their homes. GTZ’s support is made in light of its projects to strengthen the private sector in Albania.
GTZ has been supporting private sector tourism throughout Albania to organize a national association.
