Greek police block cannabis and heroin allegedly trafficked by Albanian-Greek networks

TIRANA, April 24 – Greek police said they blocked, through two large-scale operations in the Greek capital Athens large quantities of drugs belonging to Greek-Albanian drug-trafficking networks.

Athens Safety Director Giorgos Kanellos said the Greek police arrested five people and sequestered in the first operation 44 kg of pure heroin and 10kg of drug mix while in the second operation blocked 755 kilograms of marijuana and a small amount of cocaine.

Greek police sources say the heroine arrived in Athens from Iran, while the traffic was allegedly led by two Albanian nationals serving their sentence in a high-security prison in Greece.

Greek police have also blocked during the operation two labs equipped for drug processing and repatriation. According to Greek police, , the benefits of the organization were more than $1.3 million from the sale of heroin.

Meanwhile, investigations for the second operation have shown that large quantities of marijuana were transported to Greece from Albania. The narcotic was distributed by networks with an annual profit of nearly $1.3 million.

Greek police say an Albanian citizen has been arrested and that his Greek coworkers are being investigated.
