TIRANA, July 28 – In a strongly worded reaction to the recent developments in Kosovo, Prime Minister Sali Berisha on Thursday denounced the ultra-nationalistic acts in northern Kosovo and also called on Prishtina and Belgrade to lower the tensions and continue the dialogue.
Albania strongly denounced the “criminal acts” at the northern Kosovo border crossings and called on Pristina and Belgrade to lower tensions and continue dialogue.
“The government of the Republic of Albania denounces the criminal acts of the Bigger Serbia phalanges at the crossing points of the northern border, the killing of the special forces’ officer, the burning of the customs buildings and the attack against the KFOR units, all those supported, inspired and funded from Belgrade’s ultra-nationalistic circles,” said Prime Minister Sali Berisha at a news conference, adding “(they) clearly showed that the phantasm of the Bigger Serbia again is a threat to the peace and stability in the region.”
Berisha also backed the Kosovo government’s ban on goods from Serbia and said Albania offers to Kosovo all the port facilities to “cope with the Serb embargo with the least possible consequences.”
Albanian President Bamir Topi “supported and encouraged the Pristina-Belgrade institutional dialogue initiated from the EU as the best way to resolve bilateral issues and give a concrete contribution to strengthening peace and stability in line with aspirations of the whole region for the full Euro-Atlantic integration.”
