TIRANA, April 12 – The metallurgical plant of Elbasan will soon produce seismic steel resistant to earthquakes, Economy and Energy Minister Dritan Prifit announced after a meeting with the plant’s officials.
The steel plant managed by Turkey’s KURUM is installing a new line, worth 16 million euros, to produce seismic steel, a new product entering the Albanian market, said the Economy Ministry.
Congratulating the Turkish directors of the company, minister Prifti described Kurum as one of the most serious investors operating in Albania with a staff of 800 employees.
Apart from creating employment opportunities, Kurum also contributes to lowering high prices of imported steel.
Discussing a new project on the construction of a scarp chopping plant with Kurum directors, Prifti pledged government’s support.
“We discussed the possibility that government could offer this investor some new facilities within this metallurgical plant, maybe under the new “1 Euro” scheme, because it is a serious investor which has a good performance contributing to the Albanian economy with employment and taxes,” said Prifti.
Kurum International is the only company in Albania that operates iron-steel facilities. Built on a 430,490 m2 -area and equipped with advanced technology, this facility puts Kurum Holding amongst the most prominent and respected industrial corporations in Albania.
Established to conduct Kurum Holding’s operations in Albania, Kurum International completed its first activity by launching the Elbasan Steel Production Facilities in 1999.
