TIRANA, May 17 – The title race between Superliga leaders Skenderbeu and second-placed Partizani will be decided on the last championship week.

Second-placed Partizani are back in the race after beating Skenderbeu with a late away winner last weekend, narrowing their lead to only 2 points with one game to go.

Partizani, who this year have played one of their best seasons in the past two decades, have been trophyless since 1993. The Tirana-based team known as The Reds will take on fifth-placed Teuta on Wednesday afternoon (May 18 at 17:00) in their last Superliga fixture. The Reds  have to win the match and hope Flamurtari who will be fighting to escape the relegation zone will hold Skenderbeu to a draw in order to claim the Superliga title on equal points, but better better head-to-head results against  Skenderbeu.

However, a victory away to Flamurtari in Vlora would give Skenderbeu its sixth consecutive Superliga title, dashing Partizani’s hopes of a Superliga title  after remaining trophyless for the past 23 years.

The championship winners qualify for the UEFA Champions League Preliminary while the second and third-placed teams compete in the UEFA Europa League play-off stage along with the Albanian Cup winners.

Skenderbeu have been dominating Albanian football in the past five years although having previously won only a single title back in the early 1930s. The Snow Wolves’ success has come thanks to huge investment that brought to the southeastern club in the city of Korà§a promising Albanian and foreign players

Last year, Skenderbeu made history with their debut Europa League campaign as the first Albanian club to reach the group stage of a major European competition.
