National tourism conference precedes start of the season

TIRANA, April. 24 – A national conference addressing the need to enhance tourist activities and improve the tourism services in the country at the eve of the starting tourism season was organized Tuesday by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports. The event was attended by Prime Minister Berisha and also Interior Minister Nishani , transportation Minister Basha as well as diplomats, tourism agencies representatives, etc. the ministers presented the measures taken to secure a smooth tourism season and the latest government initiatives that address this important sector in Albanian economy, the second largest one contributing to GDP. Berisha explained that the last year brought improvements in the field with a 30 percent increase in revenues that brought the country over 600 million euro. Albania has a huge potential in he field that is hampered by faulty infrastructure and improper regulation. Neighboring countries have deployed aggressive tourism strategies to attract foreign customers. Hence the Prime Minister called upon tourism business to enhance its own competitively and improve the services in order to survive the regional market.
