TIRANA, Feb.5 – Two company administrators have been arrested and five others declared wanted over a VAT fraud scheme which is estimated to have caused the state budget USD 1 million in damage, the general tax directorate said this week. The arrested people are accused of having avoided USD 1 million in VAT payments in the chromium, construction and mobile vouchers.
The General Tax Directorate has earlier unveiled several other VAT fraud schemes stimated to have caused the state budget dozens of millions of euros.
Investigations have shown the arrested people, who worked as administrators in different private companies had registered with the National Registration Centre and the tax administration different people with no trade activity with the intention of withdrawing VAT receipts and later carried out fictitious purchases by avoiding the VAT.
