TIRANA, Sep. 15 – Opposition Socialists claim the government has leaked classified information to Serbia, thus becoming a concern to NATO, which it joined last year.
Socialist lawmaker Ilir Gjoni referred to concerns expressed by Albania’s top spy, Bahri Shaqiri, referring to the leak of information from NATO. He specifically referred to the documents mentioned at the NATO Military Council on the Kumanovo Agreement on Kosovo.
Gjoni said talks at the meeting were leaked and the document had been passed on to Serb hands, according to the Gazeta Shqiptare newspaper.
Gjoni was opposed by the governing Democratic lawmaker Gazmend Oketa calling those words as not appropriate and said such claims should be verified.
The parliamentary commission discussing on the issue also postponed the passing of an agreement with Serbia on the exchange of information on the organized crime as the opposition lawmakers said that based on that classified information could pass on to Serbia.
That follows the concern on that draft law on the intelligence police that has been twice postponed after NATO says it breaks a deal the country had before becoming a member last year for not changing the law on intelligence police for the next three years.
The opposition claims that the draft law intends to give more power to the prime minister in deciding who heads the service.
