TIRANA, Jan. 3 – Prosecutor general’s office reported that the accusations made from both main political sides _ governing Democrats and main opposition Socialists _ were not good enough to start cases.
Based on some public statements from lawmakers the prosecutor’s office had started checking if the cases of alleged corruption were based on proof.
Opposition Socialists lawmaker Erion Brace accused governing Democratic Party lawmaker Albana Vokshi of exploiting her post as counselor to Prime Minister Sali Berisha to profit personally, through a man she lived with (though not formally married). She had favored him to get concessions for some small hydro power stations and also earn a land filled with oil.
Vokshi on her side accused Socialist leader Edi Rama of earning illegal profits (through a businessman he was close with) imposing a 20 percent share at the works for a big construction site in capital Tirana.
The prosecutor’s office said that after making the proper work, questioning all the involved parties and persons, they decided that there was no legal proof to base both charges.
So the prosecutor’s office concluded to close the cases.
So Albanians had to get crazy for all these months listening to such accusations against each other. They listen to both sides accusing each other of corruption. They listen to the international community telling them that corruption is a main shortcoming for the country’s hopes of integration.
But they also listen to their judiciary telling them ‘forget about them’, Albanian politicians are clear, not corrupted.
