TIRANA, Oct. 18 – The Albanian Agency for Public Procurements (APP) and the Delegation of the European Commission in Albania organized Wednesday a conference entitled “Public Procurement- an important step to European Integration.” There were speeches by several participants like Liam Heavin, Head of the Expert Team of the Support to the Public Procurement System project, Prime Minister Sali Berisha, EC Ambassador Helmuth Lohan, and others. Lohan said that correct implementation of the new legislation about public procurements would enhance competition in the free market; trust in the official institutions and transparency about the process of procurement. Other speakers shared the experience from their respective countries like Italy and Slovakia. The conference aimed at providing the Albanian government with specific recommendations on designing the bets way to implement the new legislation on public procurements. Berisha asked the government at their meeting to provide by Nov. 20 all necessary assistance for some important legal acts on public procurements.
