Small hydropower concession race continues

ELBASAN, April.9 – No less than 28 requests and proposal plans have been admitted and approved in principle by the local authorities of Elbasan for the construction of small hydro power plants over the rivers of Shkumbin and Devoll. The procedure requires the Council of Basins to submit these requests to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy which is the final decision maker. Sources from the Council explain that most of the submitted concrete plans reflect a contemporary study off the water reserve efficiency and potential as well a projects the building through the use of modern technology. One of the interested firms that has submitted a plan has been the steel factory KURUM which requires the source of Gostima in the commune of Shushica in order to build a plant that will meet the energy demands of the steel factory as well as cover the consumption needs of the area around.
