TIRANA, June 12 – In another sign of how Albanians should behave in such an issue and to celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) 2008 and its theme of “Giving Blood Regularly,” the U.S. Embassy held its third blood drive on Wednesday.
In support of efforts by the International Red Cross, Red Crescent and World Health Organization, the embassy has done the same thing in two previous occasions in December and August 2007 where so0me 70 persons donated their blood to help others. Twenty other people were registered to donate blood in Wednesday’s activities. The purpose of this endeavor is to assist the Albanian National Blood Bank in its goal of achieving 100 percent voluntary blood by 2010.
WBDD is designed to thank volunteers who donate blood without any reward, except the knowledge that they are saving lives in their community. With that, we would like to thank these volunteers who are giving their time today and would like to remind them of WBDD’s new slogan – “Once is not enough.”
