VAT on cement, steel for HPPs lifted

TIRANA, Oct. 10 – Government decided this week to lift value added tax for cement and steel used for the construction of hydropower plants. Prime Minister Sali Berisha said the decision would further promote investments in hydropower plants by lowering their costs.
The Albanian government has signed concession contracts, worth Euro 3.2 billion, for the construction of 443 hydropower plants.
Last week, government also lifted the 20% VAT on imports of machinery and equipment, a request made long ago by the business community.
