TIRANA, Nov. 25- The energy crisis in Albania, and especially the long term plans to solve it, have recently attracted the attention of the international media which has put four different energy projects in the limelight. “The Herald Tribune” and “The Guardian” have reported that the total amount of funds to be invested in Albanian energy programs is no less than 5.1 billion euro.
Four projects
The council of ministers has already selected some energy projects which, in the long term, are expected to solve the nation’s energy crisis. One plan is to build under-sea electric transmission cables at a cost of 1.3 billion euro. This project has a regional focus. The second project, worth 2.5 billion euro, is the construction of a terminal for natural gas, thermo power and oil reserves in Seman. The third energy project is the construction of a 500 megawatt hydropower plant by the Italian company, Tassara-Geotecna Progetti-Kinglor, worth 600 million euro at Skavica, which is part of the Drin river, 200 km east of Tirana. The final energy project consists of the interconnection project between Albania and Italy and is worth 700 million euros.
