TIRANA, Oct. 16 – Director General of the British Council, Sir David Green, visited Tirana for two days. It was his first visit to Albania, to open the brand new British Council premises in Tirana. He also met with the country’s top officials. The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations, and it operates in 109 countries around the world. Sir David saw what work the British Council is doing in Albania and learned about other ways the British Council could help support Albania’s integration. He was interested in seeing the work that the British Council is doing with young people in Albania, as part of its strategy of using innovative activities to support wider development, working with lively networks of young people around the country. The British Council is working to help the impressive young talent present in Albania develop its skills through enhanced contact with the UK. The new, enlarged premises of the British Council in Tirana, which were officially opened Monday, reflect the importance that the UK attaches to its relationship with Albania, and a belief that the British Council’s work here can make a valuable contribution to the future of Albania and its wider relationships within Europe. The focus is on providing excellent customer service and on exploring modern, innovative ways of working. Sir David Green KCMG has been Director General of the British Council since 1999. The British Council has been fully operative in Albania since 2001.
