OSCE/ODIHR mission visits Albania

TIRANA, Nov. 6,7 – A mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights visited Albania to meet with all the main political actors in an effort of mediation on the local elections. Head of the election department Gerald Mitchell and election counselor Gilles Saphy met with Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the governing Democratic Party and also Edi Rama of the opposition Socialist Party and other opposition leaders. ODIHR has been monitoring Albania’s elections during the post-communist period. In its report following general elections last year it said that Albania had generally fulfilled the democratic standards but it still needed improvement in some main topics.
