WASHINGTON, May 7 – Albania’s new Foreign Minister, Lulzim Basha, denied Monday that there was any proposal for Albania to join with Kosova upon its independence.
Speaking at a forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, Basha rejected the idea that Albanians in the western Balkans aimed to crate a “greater Albania.”
The minister made it clear that Albanians living in Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania aimed only at eventual membership in the European Union and NATO.
“All of our actions, all of our initiatives, both regional, European and international, point to the will of successive governments that we have one goal, one shared vision: to join the European Union, to join NATO and to do so as soon as possible,” he said.
Albania has also made it clear that it is against any change or amendments in Ahtisaari’s proposal and considers it the “best possible deal” for all concerned.
There is no `greater Albania’ idea for Western Balkans, says Basha
