TIRANA, March 3 – A group of five NATO ships began a visit to Albania on Saturday. The one week stay will see officials reviewing the country’s situation and reforms prior to the next month’s NATO summit when Albania expects to receive an invitation for membership. The five ships-a Turkish, Greek, Italian, German and British ship-were commanded by Turkish c/admiral Sinan Ertugrul.
The NATO officers held a meeting with Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu and chief-of-staff Gen. lt. Luan Hoxha.
The officers will also meet with other military officials and local authorities in the western port city of Durres, where their ships are berthed.
