BULQIZE, May 18 – Looking to discipline mining activities, Economy Minister Dritan Prifti went to Bulqiz묠Albania’s best known mining town, this week to present his new task force on mining.
Under the government’s action plan for the regulation of mining activity approved by four ministries, the aim is to eventually solve all the problems of the country’s mining sector. However, the task force will also control all business activities in mining areas.
Albania’s mining sector has suffered from unlicensed operations in recent years, which experts say are damaging the economy and placing workers at risk.
Albania has some of the world’s richest reserves for certain metals, including chromium, which is a very important export product for the economy.
Prifti said it is very important that this activity takes place under the law, that companies are licensed and implementing technical security regulations, to guarantee the life of miners and the community in all aspects.
