Wanted Albanian arrested in Scotland murder

TIRANA, Sep. 20 – Sunday Mail reports how one of Interpol’s most wanted men lived a secret double life in a chip shop before being arrested in an armed raid. He was an Albanian. It also speaks of the increased cooperation of the Albanian law-enforcement authorities with international partners in the fight against crime.
Albanian killer Fatjon Kapri, 30, fled to Scotland after he stabbed a man to death in London in April 2001. He was tried in his absence by a court in Albania, and after being found guilty of the murder was sentenced to 22 years.
But the fugitive’s incredible double life, including a romance with chip shop worker Jean Goudie, only ended when police caught up with him in June.
He has been remanded in custody pending his extradition to Albania.
Kapri murdered fellow Albanian Ylli Pepa after the pair got into a fist fight. When officers from the Met raided the relative’s house in London where he had been staying, there wasn’t a single photograph or DNA trace. Kapri enrolled in a college to improve his English, and found work in fish and chip chain The Blue Lagoon’s shop in Gordon Street, Glasgow.
He even began a romance with coworker Jean, 44, and the pair had an on-off relationship. Mum-of-three Jean, of Baillieston, Glasgow, said: “I still can’t take it all in. When police told me he had been found guilty of murder by a court in Albania and sentenced to 22 years I was in complete shock.”
The court in Kapri’s home town of Elbasan took responsibility for hearing the case, and officers from the Met and witnesses traveled to Albania in May 2002 to give evidence before three judges.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said: “As a result of Information received in 2010 from Albania suggesting Kapri was living in Glasgow, MPS officers liaised with their colleagues in Glasgow.
He was arrested last June.
