TIRANA, Oct. 19 – European counterfeiting experts convened in Tirana in a four-day meeting to discuss ways and measures to protect the Euro
The meeting was organized by the federal bureau of investigation of Bavaria, Germany and the European Office against counterfeiting of the European Commission (OLAF).
More than 100 participants were experts of the courts, police and central banks from 20 countries of south-eastern Europe (Greece, Cyprus, Austria, Germany, Italy, Malta, Republic Czech, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Rumania, Albania, Montenegro, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo, Moldova and Turkey, including representatives from Europol, European Commission, European Central bank and Bavaria Interior Ministry.)
nowadays 16 out of 27 EU member countries use the Euro in an area populated by some 329 million people.
The euro is also a very important currency in all the other countries and the world.
That turns it into an object, target of interest for the organized crime.
That was part of a series of conferences of the kind starting since 2003 from the Bavarian Interior Ministry and held every year.
