TIRANA, Nov. 18 – Albania’s fixed telephone company, Albtelecom, announced Thursday it has launched the use of Internet Exchange, a modern equipment which incapacitates a better link of all the Internet Service Providers in the country.
The new technology creates a broader base of broadband internet exchange. The project will be applied from Verso company, a certified partner of Cisco Gold which has widely used such a technology.
Albtelecom aims at turning the country as a new regional center in South East Europe for the Information Technology and Telecommunication. The Albanian Internet Exchange Point (AIXP) is the first to be applied in the region and that is considered as the first step toward achieving the goal of turning into a regional center, according to Dr. Orhan Coskun, President of ȡlik Group for the Balkans and Southeastern Europe.
Albtelecom Director Genera Sevket Acar said the company has started many other new projects aiming at a better communication for its clients, improve business activities and facilitate Albania’s road toward digitalization.
“The AIXP will make possible a faster and cheaper Internet in
Albania,” he said, adding its application will start at the end of the month.
Peter Hajdu, Emerging East head of the Cisco System, said the
broadband has turned to become the fourth basic infrastructure,
following energy, water supply and transport.
“Such networks make possible economic knowledge and contribute in the economic development and the modernization of the important sectors like education and health,” he said.
The use of the Internet has increased massively recently in Albania. But penetration of the Internet with wideband (broadband) and fix telephony in Albania is lower than the European average. With the rapid big investments Albtelecom has done in the Internet service sector, compared with regional countries and those European ones, Albania has seen a rapid increase in the number of subscribers and penetration.
Especially in the last year there has been a noted a rapid increase in the number of subscribers and of the customers of the services provided by ALBtelecom, fix telephony and internet.
For ALBtelecom the main goal is to provide a fast service, with
quality, without interruption and to provide value-added services and with economical prices to satisfy its customers.
