TIRANA, Jan. 10 – Turkey’s Calik Group, which is present in Albania with fixed-line operator Albtelecom, Eagle Mobile and Banka Kombetare Tregtare (BKT Bank) has financially supported the rehabilitation of the new Ataturk square, newly named after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.
The square situated in the former 21-Dhjetori crossroads, was rehabilitated under a Tirana Municipality urban re-qualification project to ease car and pedestrian movement and rehabilitate the facades of the apartment blocks next to it.
Thanking the Calik Group for the financial support, Tirana Mayor Edi Rama said a new completely transformed public space was being made available to the local community offering new spaces for all ages.
The project also included creation of new green areas, lighting systems and some benches.
Calik Holding sees the investments in Albania as very important in strategic terms.
“Investments of Calik Holding in telecommunication sector and banking system in the region are a clear indication of the importance we give to Albania; we want to provide as much employment and added value as we can,” said the company’s president Ahmet Calik last year.
