TIRANA, Jan. 10 – Facebook is turning into a hobby in Albania.
It is believed that more than one people have become Facebook members.
That has been stressed a lot recently from Prime Minister Sali Berisha in an effort to show how Albanians were ‘digitalizing” their lives.
Berisha has hailed the widespread use of Facebook as a measure of his government’s technological achievements.
Berisha considered the use of the social network as one of the “culminating achievements toward a digital Albania.”
“Today we surpass a number of European countries when it comes to communicating through Facebook,” Berisha said. “No matter what you say there, and this is a right that has to do with the freedom of thought and expression, it’s a comfortable way to communicate socially.”
According to the statistics website Social Bakers, there are more than one million Facebook users in Albania with penetration into the population standing at 33.95 per cent, representing 78 per cent of Albanians with access to the internet.
Social Bakers report that 75 per cent of these users are under 24-years-of-age, while the country is ranked 66 worldwide when it comes to social network penetration.
