TIRANA, Feb. 3 – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on Tuesday offered a grant of 17 million euros to Albania that will be spent for the Vlore bypass roads.
In fact the grant comes from the European Union but it passes through the EBRD, one of its main partners in the development of infrastructure projects.
The deal was signed form Albanian Finance Minister Shkelqim Cani and the EBRD Western Balkan head Holger Muent.
The grant becomes part of the 58-million euro project that will be used for this road segment and other projects surrounding it.
The new project will help give a new breath to the Albanian southwest seaside as it will release the traffic and increase road security. It will become the connecting link of the north-south corridor in the country. It will give a new impetus to the economic development of the south, focusing in the industrial development, tourism and agriculture.
The Vlore bypass will link the Levan-Vlore highway with the national road from Vlore to Saranda to a length of 29 kilometers. It will be a great assistance also to restructure the area and also assist in preventing flooding like the one now in that area.
It is expected that the whole investment will start in March.
