TIRANA, April 1 – The week marked the first violent incidents of the June 23 parliamentary elections.
Kreshnik Spahiu of the Red-and-Black Alliance Party was attacked with objects thrown at him at a rally he was holding Sunday in the central city of Elbasan. Spahiu said that two persons had tried to hit him with eggs and other objects. He also complained that police stayed passively watching the attack and doing nothing.
Police, on their side considered the rally as illegal as their request was turned down telling the political force police had not enough forces to secure it. They detained the person who threw the eggs.
The same day the local media reported how the offices of the main opposition Socialist Party in a quarter in capital Tirana were damaged from unknown persons.
