TIRANA, March 22 – Police have undertaken a new method in fighting drug trafficking in the country, as they move to stop marijuana cultivation before it begins, by preventing the planting for the drug.
The country’s top policeman, Artan Didi, made a visit to the southern Gjirokaster region, where the village of Lazarat is located. It is considered to be the main base of planting cannabis sativa in Albania and the main reason Albania is considered to be a main producer in Europe.
Didi also called on the local authorities to help, asking for their cooperation in this difficult fight for police.
Police have been trying to take Albania out of the black list as a source of drugs.
As a result, of the new efforts of the new government, in power since September last year, they have stopped several tons of cannabis being from tried to be trafficked abroad and have also cooperated with neighboring countries to fight such traffic.
Albania is considered as country of origin for soft drugs like cannabis and as a transit point for hard drugs.
