Democrats have filed charges with prosecutors following alleged physical confrontations and phone threats.

TIRANA, July 14 – Opposition leaders have called for criminal proceedings against two members of parliament from the ruling coalition involved in a physical fight with an MP from the opposition.
Main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha and DP lawmakers Arben Ristani and Eduard Halimi, met Monday with Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla to hand over a file of charges against two Socialist lawmakers — Arben Ndoka and Pjerin Ndreu.
Ndreu is being accused of the violence used toward Democratic MP Gent Strazimiri in the session last week in the Parliament. The Democrats are also filing charges on Ndoka for threats against Democratic Party spokeswoman Laura Vorpsi.
“We asked for a full investigation of these MPs. State of law and order has to work in Albania and the majority cannot keep silence. We are a NATO member and this means the democracy should exist,” said Halimi.
Last week Strazimiri spoke harshly at the parliament against his opponents, often even personalizing his words. Following that he had some quarrel with words in the hall which later allegedly turned physical outside the main hall.
Following that, the parliament leadership considered such an event as “unacceptable.”
The two Socialist MPs were sanctioned with non-participation in the parliament for seven and three days, while Strazimiri was only reprimanded.
Democrats also say their official spokesperson, Vorpsi was threatened via phone by Ndoka after she had published in a press conference documents that showed Ndoka had a criminal record in Italy.
