TIRANA, March 17 – Albania has again asked Russia to end its ban on the Adriatic republic’s agricultural products.

Albanian Ambassador to Moscow Arben Gazioni on Monday met with senior Russian officials of the agriculture ministry and the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance to discuss the official request.

The ban was imposed by Moscow at the end of last year in response to the same ban made from the EU member countries on Russia.

Russian authorities decided to ban fruit and vegetable imports from Albania saying they were accompanied with forged phytosanitary certificates. Albanian-labeled products in fact were from EU companies trying to break the embargo, officials said.

Russian authorities said after the meeting Monday they could decide soon to end the ban, with both sides vowing to tighten controls through a new deal.
