Police detain 81 undocumented migrants

TIRANA, March 22 – The flow of refugees from conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa continues, as police detain more undocumented migrant on a daily basis.

Last weekend alone, police in northern Shkoder region seized 81 illegal migrants, mainly from Syria, who were trying to cross into Montenegro. Police found them inside a small truck near Hani i Hotit border crossing.

Police also arrested the Albanian driver who is now being prosecuted for human beings trafficking.

Albania is a transit country for these migrants, who try to reach Western Europe.

Albanian police detain small groups trying to cross into Albania from neighboring Greece on a daily basis. They try to reach Montenegro and then further to Italy and other western European countries.
