TIRANA, March 29 – Prime Minister Edi Rama has continued efforts to attract investments from nearby Italy with a visit this week to meet local authorities and businesses in the Abruzzo region.

He met with top leaders and business representatives to promote Albania’s economic potential and business climate for foreign investments.

Rama said that Italy is Albania’s main trading partner and a main investor and presence in energy, construction, textile, infrastructure, shoe manufacturing and agro-business production.

He added that economic reforms are a priority to his cabinet in its road toward European integration.

Rama also urged the creation of an Adriatic-Ionian macro-region that would involve powerful businesses from Italy and smaller ones from the Balkan region.

Albania is currently in a difficult economic position with an increase public deficit. Assistance and loans taken from the World Bank and the IMF have been fundamental to keep its finances alive. Very little growth has been reported, when the country needs high growth to catch up with the EU economies.
